The Princeton Review has named 可乐视频 one of the Best Value Colleges in the country for 2024. The full list of cited colleges, as well as the company鈥檚 profiles of the schools, are accessible for free with registration on The Princeton Review .

To learn more about the value of a 可乐视频 degree, read President Michelle J. Anderson鈥檚 op-ed for Crain鈥檚 New York.

The Princeton Review chose schools for the 2024 list based on data from surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges. Surveys covered academics, cost, financial aid, graduation rates, and student debt. The company also factored in data from its surveys of students attending the schools, as well as from PayScale.com鈥檚 surveys of alumni of the schools about their starting and mid-career salaries and job satisfaction. In all, The Princeton Review crunched more than 40 data points to tally ROI (Return on Investment) ratings of the colleges that were the basis for the Best Value Colleges school selections.

“The schools we chose as our Best Value Colleges for 2024 are a select group: they comprise only about 8% of the nation鈥檚 four-year undergraduate institutions,鈥 said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review. 鈥淲e commend their administrators, faculties, staff, and alumni for all they are doing to educate their students and guide them to success in their careers. These colleges are also exceptional for the generous amount of financial aid they award to students with need and/or for their comparatively low cost of attendance.鈥

可乐视频 is proud to welcome to campus to discuss her most recent work, ““鈥攁 series of artistic works that focus on worldwide mass migration.

A prolific visual artist working primarily in two-dimensional mediums, Anastasi has turned her focus to worldwide mass migration with a series of 180 small paintings, the quantity in reference to the number 18, which, in the Jewish faith, is synonymous to the Hebrew word “chai,” or life.

In Anastasi鈥檚 words, migrants are “so often throughout history, those throngs of people who are perceived as 鈥榦ther鈥 [and] are rejected, even reviled, for their culture, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or geographic origins. Simply put, they are people seen as too different to elicit empathy. Art can serve to remind us of this shared humanity.”

Starting on October 20 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the 可乐视频 Library Lobby, Anastasi will discuss her 鈥渞ef-u-gee鈥 series, as well as her long career comprising of over 200 group exhibitions as well as 20 solo exhibitions. Following this talk, an opening reception will be held in the library lobby on October 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

These events are free and open to the public. However, non-CUNY members must e-mail Miriam Deutch, Associate Professor, at MiriamD@brooklyn.cuny.edu with the requested date of their visit and be prepared to show proof of vaccination at the Campus Road and Hillel entrance. 可乐视频 is proud to announce that it has joined six other CUNY campuses selected for Hillel International鈥檚 expansion of its national . The announcement is part of an ongoing series of measures to confront the uptick in antisemitism globally, locally, and on campuses across the country.

鈥淎s an anchor institution in one of the most diverse regions of the country, we are proud to join Hillel International鈥檚 Campus Climate Initiative and our fellow CUNY campuses working together to fight antisemitism and support our Jewish students, faculty, and staff,鈥 said 可乐视频 President Michelle J. Anderson.

is helping to lead this partnership with President Anderson, the college鈥檚 Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Diversity and Equity Programs. Tanger Hillel is the largest Hillel facility at a New York campus that serves a diverse population of students, including Russian-speaking Jews, Israeli, Kavkazi, Bukharin, Orthodox, and American students.

Joining Hillel International will allow 可乐视频 and CUNY to be key partners in:

  • incorporating antisemitism in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and campus-based trainings;
  • expanding DEI training for staff, administrators, and student leaders to help them understand and recognize the various forms of antisemitism and utilizing educational tools such as the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism for these efforts;
  • developing a system-wide web page for reporting campus incidents, including antisemitism, to facilitate and standardize reporting. This central page will connect to the individual campus reporting sites. It will also be shared with the college president or dean, who will be required to report on these cases on a semi-annual basis and develop policy and training as needed;
  • allocating $750,000 in new funding for events and programs that counter antisemitism and other forms of religious or ethnic bigotry, or for the expansion of DEI training incorporating antisemitism.

Currently in its third year, CCI works proactively with campuses to foster a positive campus climate in which Jewish students feel comfortable expressing their identity and values, free of antisemitism, harassment, or marginalization.

This new collaboration with Hillel International is one core component of a broad action plan to address antisemitism, as arrests for antisemitic crimes are up 45% in New York this year. Other CUNY campuses selected for this CCI expansion include Baruch College, The City College of New York, College of Staten Island, Hunter College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Queens College.

The effort follows the JCRC-NY Scholars as Bridge Builders鈥 visit to Israel in late April, when President Anderson was invited by CUNY Chancellor F茅lix V. Matos Rodr铆guez to join a delegation of 12 CUNY college presidents and deans to Israel and the West Bank to participate in a weeklong study tour of the country鈥檚 cities, historic sites, and higher education institutions that included meetings with academics, activists, and public officials.

鈥淚 am so proud of the partnerships we have developed with dozens of colleges and universities who are deeply committed to improving the experiences of Jewish students as part of their DEI commitments for all students,鈥 said Mark Rotenberg, Hillel鈥檚 vice president for University Initiatives & Legal Affairs. 鈥淭he challenges of antisemitic hate, harassment, and marginalization on campus require awareness and commitment to change by university leaders, and the CCI program鈥檚 dramatic growth from eight schools to 40 in two years shows that those leaders are out there.鈥

Brett Branco stands with a sensor and a data board with Rebecca Fischman, Senior Policy Advisor from the Mayor鈥檚 Office of Climate and Environmental Justice, on September 1 where Mayor Eric Adams announced various stormwater infrastructure initiatives aimed at making the city more resilient to extreme rainfall in the future.

New York City is girding itself for storm season, which, in the face of accelerating climate change, could mean more frequent and extreme storms like Hurricanes Henri and Ida as well as local cloudbursts producing prodigious volumes of stormwater.

Brett Branco from the and the Executive Director of the at 可乐视频 who also teaches at the CUNY Graduate Center is part of an academic, government, and community consortium called that is addressing these issues through a first-ever, free online tool that will help communities and government agencies to know where, when, and how quickly flood waters are rising.

Launched on Sept. 1鈥攖he one-year anniversary of the devastating and deadly flooding from Hurricane Ida鈥攖he new mobile-ready presents real-time data collected by the expanding FloodNet system of low-cost, open-source sensors in flood-prone areas across the city. Currently, FloodNet comprises 30 ultrasonic devices deployed in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island, from which readings are delivered to an interactive map and data visualization platform that allows users to see the occurrence and depth of flood water at each sensor location.

鈥淲e鈥檝e been working with both communities and government for years to better understand the impact that flooding has on the lives of NYC residents,鈥 Branco said. 鈥淔rom the frequent nuisance flooding due to high tides around Jamaica Bay, to the catastrophic flooding across all five boroughs that occurs during coastal storms and extreme rainfall events, FloodNet and the data dashboard will help NYC find equitable solutions to these problems.鈥

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection marked the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ida today in Queens by announcing a suite of stormwater infrastructure initiatives aimed at making the city more resilient to extreme rainfall in the future, including the FloodNet sensors and the newly launched dashboard. The city has already installed 29 sensors this year alone and will install 50 this year and 500 FloodNet sensors in priority areas citywide over the next five years. These areas are and will continue to be determined by an analysis of stormwater risk, tidal flooding risk, storm damage, environmental justice history, social vulnerability, critical infrastructure, and proximity to wireless network connections.

鈥淚鈥檓 a big believer in technology to run our city smarter,鈥 Mayor Adams said, adding that the sensors and dashboard will provide the city with critical infrastructure in order to advice evacuations, travel bans, or road closures. 鈥淭his is more than infrastructure; it鈥檚 how we are going to protect our city and people from rising sea levels and stronger storms,鈥 he said. 鈥淭his is how we are going to lead. Everyone takes notice of what happens here in New York and what happens here cascades to the rest of the country.鈥

The dashboard is free-to-use and makes it easy for communities and government agencies to know where, when, and how quickly flood waters are rising, either from overburdened stormwater drains or coastal seawater surges. The system was created in partnership with , with funding from the New York State Empire State Development Corporation.

The research team also includes of CUNY ASRC, CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), the , the of Climate & Environmental Justice, and the NYC Office of Technology & Innovation. It was developed by a team of researchers including Branco, , , , and of NYU Tandon.

The dashboard:

  • Displays a rich data set collected by the FloodNet sensors, including the depth and profile of street-level floods over time, which can be of use to community members, city agencies, researchers, emergency responders, journalists, and others.
  • Provides flood data in real-time as they are collected, and can alert users to floods as they develop.
  • Includes a searchable map view that allows users to see at a glance which sensors are currently recording floods.
  • Includes historical data, allowing users to explore and understand the frequency and severity of flooding in locations where FloodNet sensors are deployed, in addition to visualizing floods that occurred during specific events. For example, during Tropical Storm Henri, on the same night separated by an hour where the water receded. During Ida, in Brooklyn, with flood waters rising quickly, peaking within 20 minutes, creating extremely hazardous conditions.
  • Visualizes regular flooding related to high tide events through .

鈥淭his is the first time that quantitative data on urban flood occurrence, depth, and duration have been measured and provided to the public 鈥 we鈥檙e excited to share the dashboard with communities, city agency partners, and other researchers,鈥 said Silverman, an assistant professor of environmental engineering at NYU. 鈥淲e鈥檝e heard many stories and desired use cases for the data from a variety of stakeholders, and are looking forward to seeing how these communities end up using the real-time and historic flood data.鈥

The FloodNet project overall was developed as a collaboration between researchers at the (SRIJB) at 可乐视频, NYU Tandon鈥檚 (CUSP), and the at the CUNY Graduate Center (CUNY ASRC), in partnership with the NYC Mayor鈥檚 Office of Climate & Environmental Justice and the NYC Office of Technology & Innovation and with the financial support of the Tier 1 U.S. Department of Transportation University Transportation Center at NYU Tandon, the NYU Marron Institute, and the .

鈥淎n exciting aspect of the Floodnet project is that we鈥檙e also using it to train the next generation of young environmental scientist and community-based stewards through the involvement of New York City-based high school, community college, and undergraduate students who help us assemble, install and maintain the sensors,鈥 said Toledo-Crow, director of the ASRC Next Generation Environmental Sensors Lab, who helped design the sensors.

Ebunwola Adeyeni is a Nigerian native who will graduate with her M.A. in community health education. She says that when she found out how many Black women die during pregnancy or childbirth, her career took focus.

可乐视频: When did you decide on community health education?

EA: This path chose me. I have always had a passion for teaching, and I am committed to the things I learn that concern community health. I am coming to an understanding that by focusing on prevention instead of cures, the health care system will significantly improve. Teaching prevention and putting it front and center in education is my goal.

可乐视频: What have been some of the highlights of 可乐视频 for you?

EA: During my graduate years I began working as a health educator with a focus on comprehensive adolescent pregnancy prevention (CAPP) at the Diaspora Community Services [a Brooklyn-based agency that provides health and social services to low-income and immigrant residents]. My job provided me with a healthy balance for hands-on experience as I continued my studies. I began my master鈥檚 program at the start of the pandemic, and that was unforgettable. Because of the pandemic, my freshman year memories are entrenched with the uncertainty I felt back then.

可乐视频: What do you want to do with your degree?

EA: The fact that Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than any of their racial counterparts today is something that equally intrigues me and boils my blood. With my degree, I want to continue to grow in the public health field and specifically work toward improving Black maternal mortality by learning more steps to prevent this trend from escalating. This degree places me in the trajectory to teach the Black community that pregnancy does not equate to a death sentence, bottom line.

可乐视频: What are some things you do as hobby?

EA: I enjoy reading and teaching, of course. I am comfortable with athletics as well. I have a history in track and field, as a long jumper and a runner. I also played team badminton before. Now, I love to do yoga and listen to music.

The double major and advocate for people with disabilities began a career in public service well before graduation.

Nasim Almuntaser describes himself as a passionate public servant, educator, activist, and community organizer and has already dedicated much of his undergraduate career to working for organizations that focus on education and public policy.

可乐视频: What is your major and what inspired you to pursue that path?

NA: I am a double major in secondary education and history. I decided to pursue those fields because my entire life has been dedicated to public service. My father was a teacher in Yemen, and when he came to the United States, he did not have access to the credentials to continue his career. As the child of immigrants who did not speak English, I was tasked at a young age with responsibilities, such as translating important documents.

Often kids who are from marginalized backgrounds are written off as statistics; I see education as a way to help change lives for the better. I am currently a substitute teacher for the New York City Department of Education. I chose to pursue a career as a history teacher because I understand the need for history to be taught in a more engaging, more inclusive way than it has been in the past. As an educator, I want to play a role in uplifting the next generation through a message of hope and healing.

可乐视频: Why 可乐视频?

NA: 可乐视频 was my dream school because of the amazing education program it has. A lot of my own teachers and professors attended the institution. They, along with alums Shirley Chisholm and Bernie Sanders, were all people I looked up to and wanted to emulate.

可乐视频: What are some favorite memories?

NA: My fondest memory is tutoring students in the Center for Student Disability Services. I am a student with a disability myself and found my work as a note-taker for other students very rewarding, because it鈥檚 a way to provide access to education to a more inclusive student body. I believe anyone can become anything if the resources are there for them. I am also a College Now Ambassador under Program Director Pieranna Pieroni. She and the program were so influential in preparing me for my undergraduate degree. Now I return the favor by assisting high school students with their transition to college.

可乐视频: Is there anything you have accomplished of which you are especially proud?

NA: I was awarded the Myself Third: Spirit of New York Scholarship in 2019, which was established to pay tribute to workers who acted selflessly in the disaster of 9/11. It is given to those who are civically engaged and display a strong sense of citizenship. I was chosen because of my community organizing on campus. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I worked to provide PPE equipment to first responders and essential workers. I was given the New York State Senate Proclamation: Community Empowerment Award by Senator Roxanne Persaud for civil service during the pandemic.

I also assisted the New York State public school system during the pandemic. The language barrier faced by many students of immigrant backgrounds led them to be reported to child services for lack of attendance. In fact, the students did not have reliable technology or access to remote learning in their home environment. I supported the outreach to get tablets and computers to students. I was able to help hundreds of families bridge that gap and educate them on resources available. I wrote to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris about my perspective on the future of American democracy and received a response from them recognizing my service and leadership.

可乐视频: What are your plans for the future?

NA: I was accepted to a competitive internship program, and will be living in Washington, D.C. this summer. The program鈥檚 mission is to systematically change Congress by empowering a diverse, inclusive, and effective generation of public servants. I鈥檒l be working directly with members of Congress and the Senate. All my living expenses will be covered, and I鈥檒l be able to focus on learning and making connections in D.C. without the limitations of financial resources. My immediate goal is to become a teacher and, ultimately, I鈥檇 like to run for local office. I want to help New Yorkers fight for the voices that have been silenced and pushed to the sidelines for so long.

可乐视频: What is the most valuable lesson gained? Any advice for incoming students?

NA: There are so many exceptional educators at 可乐视频. My best advice for students is to seek them out and build relationships with them. It鈥檚 easy to feel like just a number, but they have information and knowledge that can be transformational for your life if you take the initiative to build that connection.

Memorial event held on West Quad commemorated members of the 可乐视频 community.

On April 14, the 可乐视频 community led by President Michelle J. Anderson came together to commemorate some of the college鈥檚 family who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Anderson opened the event with Vice President of Student Affairs Ron Jackson.

Saying that the pandemic robbed the community of loved ones and the opportunity to say goodbye, Anderson spoke to the eternal sadness many are facing, and the importance of the ceremony and coming together again.

鈥淥ur campus was one of the first across the country to lose people to COVID-19. And now, almost everyone knows someone who has died due to the virus,鈥 Anderson said.

Reading the names of the nine from the campus who were among those honored, Anderson pointed out that they ranged in ages from 31 to 81, and that we will never forget all of their contributions.

Those recognized were Moshe Augenstein, Kenneth Axen, Mark Blum, Peter Brancazio, Jay Jankelwicz, Juliet Manragh, James Pletcher, Paul Shelden, and Aaron Tenenbaum.

The moving memorial included personal remembrances of faculty and staff offered by friends, colleagues, or family members. The event also included a performance of George Frideric Handel鈥檚 鈥淟ascia Ch’io Pianga鈥 by the brass ensemble of Ryan Martin, Steven Alesso, and Justin Laurenceau from the Conservatory of Music, and a poem, 鈥淐ovidium Sestina,鈥 written and read by Monique Ngozi Nri, a 2021 graduate of the college鈥檚 M.F.A. in poetry program, and a current employee.

The event closed with a ceremony centered on a recently planted tree that will serve as a permanent reminder of the incredible contributions of those who have passed, both on and off the campus.

Members of the 可乐视频 family who helped organize the event included Vice President for Student Affairs Ron Jackson, Zunera Ahmed; USG members Jana Taoube, Sadiya Houqe, and Ryan Fratello; and Tim Shortell, Ellen Tremper, Tony Thomas, Randall Clarke, and Jes煤s P茅rez. The multi-camera livestream was provided by students from the Department of Television, Radio & Emerging Media (TREM) in the School of School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts.

New program will educate students on the fundamentals of risk management through guest lectures, internships, and an Aon/Spencer Educational Foundation Course Development Grant that will support students through their academic journey.

Building on its strength on connecting business students with industry leaders, 可乐视频鈥檚 Murray Koppelman School of Business is working with and to develop a series of cutting-edge risk management courses and programs at the undergraduate level to better prepare students for a career in risk management, insurance, finance, and other professions.

Aon, a leading global professional services firm, will provide full course tuition awards for up to 25 students enrolled in these courses with GPAs of 3.00 or higher. To support 可乐视频鈥檚 and Aon鈥檚 commitment to diversity, at least 50 percent of the students receiving the tuition awards will come from traditionally underrepresented and diverse backgrounds.

鈥淲e anticipate the collaboration between Aon and Koppelman to be a long-lasting relationship, given our shared interest and commitment to supporting the next generation of diverse business leaders,鈥 said Qing Hu, Dean of the Murray Koppelman School of Business. 鈥淭his collaboration will significantly benefit our students by preparing them to be well-trained and high-quality employees in new and growing fields within the business world.鈥

The first milestone of this collaboration is a new three-credit course on the fundamentals of risk management and insurance, which is being offered during the 2022 winter intersession. The course introduces students to the concept of risk in the context of what households and commercial businesses face in this highly uncertain environment. Students will study how risk is assessed, measured, managed, absorbed, distributed, and transferred.

鈥淲e are in the beginning stages of working with 可乐视频 and plan to continue to build upon our work together over time,鈥 said Aaron Olson, Executive Vice President for Aon United Solutions at Aon and executive sponsor for the initiative. 鈥淲e are focused on strengthening the curriculum leveraging Aon鈥檚 expertise in helping organizations navigate risk and volatility; creating links between the school and our industry; and supporting talented students through the tuition awards and future employment opportunities. We鈥檝e already made progress on these fronts. As we strive to continue to build a resilient workforce, helping develop future talent is a key part of that effort.鈥

Students will also examine the value of specific household and business decisions regarding the use of insurance to protect income, wealth, and property value from losses that result from certain events. Aon risk management professionals and executives will serve as guest lecturers to bring real-world problems to the classroom. Students who complete this course with distinction will be invited to apply for internship positions at Aon. The collaboration with 可乐视频 is part of Aon鈥檚 broader efforts to further its commitment to inclusion and diversity and expand access to diverse talent, alongside other initiatives such as the Aon Apprenticeship Program.

鈥淎t Aon, inclusion and diversity is part of the fabric of our culture and we are committed to developing and advancing diverse talent within our firm and our industry,鈥 Lambros Lambrou, CEO of Commercial Risk Solutions at Aon, said. 鈥淲e are proud to work with 可乐视频 to bring forth a curriculum that introduces students to risk management and provides opportunities to gain industry experience through our various internship and early career development programs. We look forward to evolving our relationship over time, with the aim to support the development of a risk management major or minor for 可乐视频 students in the future. I am energized by the impact this new talent will have in our industry.鈥

Given this dynamic business and economic environment, the faculty of the Koppelman School know that risk management is one of the essential elements of a contemporary business education, and a well-educated business graduate should have a fundamental understanding of risk management principles, analytic models, risk control tools, and management practices. Faculty have infused risk management concepts, models, and case studies in their accounting, finance, economics, operations, and management courses.

鈥淭his is just the first step in phasing in more forward-thinking business curriculum and courses that will be offered at Koppelman,鈥 Hu said. 鈥淲e plan to develop a set of new courses with Aon to provide students with a better understanding of the various types of risks that households and businesses face, while also getting a broad understanding of the types of careers that are available within the insurance industry and risk management profession. We are extremely proud to work with Aon and The Spencer Educational Foundation in this endeavor.鈥

Hu added that this program sets a great example of college-industry collaboration in developing and offering cutting-edge and high-in-demand academic programs the Koppelman School is actively pursuing. He called for more businesses in New York City and around the country to join this strategic initiative and explore exciting opportunities that greatly benefit the students and society and significantly enhance the diversity, equity, and inclusion in the professional workforce.
