Program Overview

Designed for students with strong undergraduate accounting backgrounds, this program provides advanced instruction in accounting, economic analysis, finance, and quantitative methods. Coursework emphasizes asset valuation, enterprise reporting, tax research and planning, comptrollership and managerial accounting, contemporary accounting topics, and accounting requirements of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Our highly regarded Master of Science in accounting program will prepare you for certified public accountant (CPA) licensure. This program is registered with the New York State Education Department as meeting the 150 semester-hour requirement for CPA candidates.

Program Requirements (30 Credits)

This program is registered with the New York State Education Department as meeting the 150-semester-hour requirement for CPA candidates. Students who complete the program may sit for the CPA examination. Coursework emphasizes asset valuation and related problems of enterprise reporting, tax research and planning, comptrollership and managerial accounting, contemporary accounting topics, and accounting requirements of the SEC. Applicants must have course work equivalent to the B.S. in accounting at ¿ÉÀÖÊÓÆµ.

Thirty credits are required for the degree.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must have earned a 120-credit bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 15 credits in accounting and 24 credits in general business electives.

  • Fall Application Deadline: June 15. Applications after this date may be accepted on a rolling basis until all places are filled.
  • Spring Application Deadline: December 15. Applications after this date may be accepted on a rolling basis until all places are filled.

Supporting Documents for Matriculation

Submit the following documents to the Office of Graduate Admissions:

  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants who earned a bachelor’s degree outside the United States need to submit a course-by-course international transcript evaluation. See Graduate Admissions for more information.
  • Two letters of recommendation.

Required Tests

  • GMAT scores (optional). CUNY undergraduate accounting students with a GPA in baccalaureate major of 3.00 or higher need not submit GMAT scores.
  • F-1 or J-1 international students must submit English Proficiency Exam. TOEFL—79, IELTS—6.5, PTE—58–63, Duolingo—105–160.

I-20 Submission Deadlines

F-1 students who are not currently in the country should submit their I-20 by the following dates to allow sufficient time for visa processing and to meet the semester start date.

  • July 15 for fall admission
  • December 5 for spring admission

Nondegree Applicants

This program accepts nondegree applicants. Nondegree applicants can only take a maximum of 12 graduate credits at ¿ÉÀÖÊÓÆµ. If you wish to take more than 12 graduate credits at ¿ÉÀÖÊÓÆµ, you are required to apply for the M.S. in Accounting degree program and meet all of the requirements of degree-seeking applicants.
