Program Overview

As an information systems major, you will choose a double major, such as business and accounting, or select a minor in business law, corporate social responsibility, marketing, organizational behavior, small business management, or urban entrepreneurship. This degree is offered in conjunction with the Department of Computer and Information Science.

This degree equips you with the combined business and technology skills you need to succeed in a wide range of professional careers in management, human resource management, operations management, business analytics, marketing, and international business. These skills are applicable in small and large companies, as well as nonprofits, and will also prepare you to start your own business.

Students unfamiliar with PC application software (word processing, spreadsheet software, database management software, and presentation software) should also complete Computer and Information Science . Knowledge of such software is a prerequisite for Computer and Information Science .

For those who choose to take Mathematics or , Mathematics or is required. A waiver for Mathematics ´Ç°ùÌý can be obtained from the Mathematics Department conditional on the outcome of an appropriate placement exam.

Twenty-four credits must be completed in advanced courses in the departments of Accounting, Computer and Information Science, Economics, Business Management, and/or Finance. These 24 credits must be completed at ¿ÉÀÖÊÓÆµ with a grade of C or higher in each course.

Additional Requirements for a B.S. Degree

Candidates for a B.S. degree with a major in information systems must complete at least 60 credits in science and mathematics and advanced courses numbered 2000 or above in the departments of Accounting, Computer and Information Science, Economics, Business Management, and/or Finance. Among the 60 credits, 24 credits must be completed in advanced courses in the departments of Accounting, Computer and Information Science, Economics, Business Management, and/or Finance. These 24 credits must be completed at ¿ÉÀÖÊÓÆµ with a grade of C or higher in each course. The following courses may be applied toward the 60 credits in science and mathematics:

  • All courses in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.
  • Courses marked with a number sign (#) in the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will demonstrate ability to select, design and implement Information Systems solutions.
  2. Students will validate and address information requirements, evaluate information systems alternatives, and analyze trade-offs.
  3. Students will ascertain ongoing information technology operations and identify IT risks, alongside articulate understanding of business process design and management.
  4. Students will articulate knowledge of business and management methods, including operations management and organizational behavior.
  5. Students will effectively demonstrate written, visual, and/or oral presentation in evaluating system performance.
