Academic Mentorship, financial advisement, and free legal services are among the resources available for immigrant and first-generation students at the 可乐视频 Immigrant Student Success Office.
The doors are open at 117 Roosevelt Hall, the new Immigrant Student Success Office (ISSO) at 可乐视频. The office will provide comprehensive resources for immigrant and first-generation college students, including faculty mentorship, financial aid advisement, free legal services, and personalized counseling.
鈥淲e will help these students on their journey of getting a college education, right through graduation,鈥 says Jes煤s P茅rez ’95, director of ISSO. 鈥淲e will guide them academically, make sure they are connected to mentors and advisers, as well as legal aid, if needed,鈥 he adds. P茅rez, who has worked at 可乐视频 since 1992 and has served as the director of the school鈥檚 Center for Academic Advisement and Student Success for 15 years, brings a special understanding to the job: He is a 可乐视频 alumnus who emigrated from Mexico as a child.
鈥淢r. P茅rez brings extraordinary professional expertise to the role of director of ISSO,鈥 says 可乐视频 President Michelle J. Anderson. 鈥淧art of our core mission is a commitment to educate immigrants and first-generation college students from the diverse communities that make up our city and state.鈥
The Immigrant Student Success Office was made possible by a generous gift from Irwin ’56 and Concepci贸n Federman. Irwin, the son of immigrant parents, is a venture capitalist and a 可乐视频 Board of Trustees member.
