2025-26 Hess Scholar-in-Residence

The Wolfe Institute will be hosting events throughout the academic year to introduce Russell Jeung to our campus community in anticipation of his residency during the week of March 16, 2026.

2025-26 Hess Scholar-in-Residence

Russell Jeung, 可乐视频鈥檚 2025-26 Hess Scholar-in-Residence, is Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University and co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate.

Over the last 25 years his groundbreaking research on Asian American communities has shaped the fields of Asian American Studies and Sociology of Religion.听In March 2020, Professor Jeung co-founded Stop AAPI Hate, a coalition that was awarded the 2021 Webby Award for “Social Movement of the Year.” He was named as one of the听罢滨惭贰听100 Most Influential Persons in 2021.

 

Biography

Russell Jeung is Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University and co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate. He is a leading sociologist of race, immigration, and religion. Over the last 25 years his groundbreaking research on Asian American communities has shaped the fields of Asian American Studies and Sociology of Religion.

He is author of听(Oxford University Press, 2019);听(UCLA Asian American Studies Center, 2019);听听(Zondervan, 2016);听听(with Carolyn Chen; New York University Press, 2012): and听(Rutgers University Press, 2004).

Jeung听is considered an expert in community-based, participatory research and is extensively involved with his students in conducting research with Asian American communities. In addition, with Valerie Sie, he co-produced the documentary,听The Oak Park Story听(2010), about a landmark housing lawsuit involving Cambodian and Latino tenants.听In March 2020, Professor Jeung co-founded Stop AAPI Hate, a coalition that was awarded the 2021 Webby Award for “Social Movement of the Year.” He was named as one of the听罢滨惭贰听100 Most Influential Persons in 2021.
